SheSamius and the Springfling

I told people in yesterdays livestream chat that i would finally talk a little bit about SheSamius and how i am looking at things under the springfling rules.

First off for those that don’t know the Springfling is the fancy name we are using for the static group with myself, Lessah, Jerry and more! You can watch the stream from 5 different POVs. My stream, Lessah’s, DDoStream, Grim’s and this 4way multitwitch every Wednesday at noon:30 CST for about 2 hours depending on the POV you are watching. Jerry having already knocking out an hour over his lunch break can only play for another hour. Man his job sucks right? He can only play ddo with us for an hour a week in his office… Anyway most of the rest of the group tends to stick around and hunt loot or generally have fun.

Okay now that is out of the way, lets look at the build or my process anyway. I had a few expectations for my role in the Fling.

  • Cap is probably about level 15 at best
  • Be the guy that gets things done
  • Don’t die, or if i do it better be because the odds were very overwhelming
  • Getting gear is a crap shoot so plan on nothing ever
  • Have a list quest with cherry gear to “farm” for when the cry for momentum happens

With those goals in mind and the lack of jhealz in the email train i decided to be the jhealzer. Keep in mind most of the group planed on secondary heals or being mostly able to heal themselves so by being the healer to me means when the shit hits the fan i swap from dps to spam as much as i can and keep people moving. The rest of the time i am captain of my own ship. Also anyone that has been around the last few CtHs knows that ranged is just where the game is in my opinion. So i wanted a ranged clr that has no idea if any gear/plat will make it into my hands.

Arcane Archer was a easy call, most of the tree is good with or without gear. Warpriest like was was a easy call for the gearless, Resilience of Battle is really really good. And the race was really decided by wanting to use the Tharashk dragon mark to help with chests. The plan is 4 ranger for Paralyzing Arrows and Soul Magic then max out on Clr levels.

Knowing that spell DCs will never matter i did enough Wisdom to cast all my spells with an item or wand/spell boost, ie 14. Then focused on Con and Dex (we do want IPS i think… ). You can kill almost anything if you have the hp to live and the Dex to hit it if you are ranged. The details of the build really don’t matter unless people want to keep this going after the summer, but i am hopping by then my play times will have had to change back to a normal schedule.

So that gear list, quest rewards will be more likely then chest items but some chest items are good enough to hunt. Also he happened to hit the cove so some pieces from there is huge.

  • Silver Longbow – The Church and the Cult – Got it!
  • Stalwart Trinket – Treasure of Crystal Cove – Got it!
  • Cavalry Plate (8) – Treasure of Crystal Cove – Got it!
  • Cove Hat (Wisdom/jump) – Treasure of Crystal Cove – Got it!
  • Splinterskull Acolyte Ring – Splinterskull
  • Serpentbranch – Delera’s Tomb
  • Quicksilver Cassok/Bubble Belt – Cult of the Six
  • Spectacular Optics/Rabbit Gloves – The Abandoned Excavation
  • Ring of Balance – Invasion Tokens
  • Nightforge Gorget/Nightforge Plate/Nightforge Armbands – A Relic of a Sovereign Past (Adamantine Ore collectible) – Soon i will be able to casual farm for these.
  • Giantcraft Plate Armor – Turn in 10 Ancient Giant Relics – Also can farm soon
  • Collapsible Shortbow/Firestorm Greaves – Sands of Menechtarun Explorer

So looking at my list you might notice a few things, first i am looking for good weapons and armor to build my toolbox but other slots are generally good stuff.  Also most of the things on my list have good drop rates or can be solo farmed once cracked by the team. Finally i didn’t list any of the xp boosting items. Not because they are auto includes but because on first live guys where will be farming some items i will end up playing catch up almost by happenstance.

Well that is the over all plan, things like this are made to change. In a static group there is a lot of going with the flow and this char is one that is the most easy to shift and role fill. Sure she can’t trap or umd but she can switch things around otherwise simi easily and cover that role fairly well.

Okay hope to see you in the chat on Wednesday.

Credits?

Long time readers/people that have to sit and listen to while i do things, know that i have had more then a passing interest in a thrower build in DDo. But they have never panned out, mostly because of how the hps of mobs in DDo scale upwards as the levels add up.

Then when the enhancement+ destinies pass was making waves over in the Mornlands, Tobril and I talked about a possible thrower build a few times but nothing really came from it.

Then about 4-5 months back, Tobril says to me while i am bemoaning the state of Samius’ current “final” life to a Magic Missile build , that Distributed (Ilindith on the DDo Forums) has a throwing build that i might like. And while some things i didn’t really care for in the build, Dis proved to me that a throwing build is finally a good build in the current end game.

So it has been sitting in my brain for a few months then Dis finally joins the Defense Guild and we have time to talk about the build. I tweak some things. He tweaks some things. And we kinda have a core idea.

Then i post my leveling sheet and ask him for his input, which he does.  He doesn’t like Epic Destiny: Doubleshot feat by they way. He logic is you are almost constantly rocking the massive penalty from 10Kstars or manyshot so why bother trying to have a Doubleshot value if you are going to have that massive penalty most of the time. Sound logic, so i have an extra feat to find a home.

Anyway, he makes a comment about not giving him any love for giving me the idea of a throwing build. And i am like

Say What??!

And in like 3 mins i find my first throwing build post, (which looks a lot like yesterdays post but with a few less details) dated back in March, 2012 i think.

But then i started thinking did i ever really give him the big love for showing me that a throwing build is now finally an option? I know i have posted a lot of things in the last few weeks on thoughts that he has jumped started in my brain, but looking back there isn’t much credit given. And i tend to do that, so thanks Dis for the ideas.

Anyway, i want to to point out his throwing build. He posted the details yesterday i think for anyone to comment on, here: Shurikens-v2.

Also in thanks i want to share this:

Partly in Thanks, mostly because Uhura is hot.

As always use the comments for thoughts.  I am tempted to go arty vs Rogue there are a few perks for each side. I am leaning towards more sneak attack dice and maybe a minor melee option with staffs for leveling and as needed.  Also i am conserned with the low open lock but i am not 100% comfortable with the trap locations in a lot of quests so seems like a worth wild trade off. I could also see going a point less in dex for another skill point a level. So something to thing about there. Now i just need to look at enhancement points.

Another “Final” Build

First of all sorry for missing yesterday’s post, i do try and hit on Mondays but i was overly busy dealing with real life. Again sorry.

As for DDo land think i just about have Samius in place for an attempt at a “final” life for a while. I am on my last ranger life so i now have all of the extra damage with ranged past live free feats, unless you at talking sneak attack damage then 2 more rogue lives wouldn’t be out of the question. Anyway the plan at the moment is to go shurikens (or some other ranged) full time, aka PewPewPew!

And that is about all i got. 🙂

Well not all, i know i am looking at 12/6/2 monk/ranger/rog or arty. Samius is always a halflinglike race so i think i might be returning to the skinny version.  Man i just would really like it if they had beards or any manly facial hair really. Oh well… Will have to deal with a massive dex instead.

Guess i need to pull up the planer and get to work i have like a level and some change until i have this last life wrapped unless i really want those last 2 damage from sneak attacks……

Throwers?

Did you know according to the ddowiki there are 21 named throwing weapons in ddo? Out of those 21,  6 are Alchemical X or Green Steel X and then there is 6 versions of The Morning Star which is fine and all but come on…. I guess darts are also throwing weapons so lets add 2 more for 23. But you can only have Alchemical and the Nightforge Spike which isn’t all that bad as it is 1.5[1d4 ]+5 18-20 X3. According to the game that means its Base Damage Rating is 11.05 damage a hit. Now the Epic Elite The Morning Star is 2[1d2]+8 20X2 or BDR of 11.55.

DOES THIS SOUND EVEN CLOSE TO RIGHT?

Okay so lets back up a second and also add the Spell touched throwers but does that even help? Here is a random pile of stuff, does it look good? No please try again, or this:

Ha Ha. Like the loop ever finishes.

Or more like this:

Hint: You are the mouse!

So what do we want/deserve in a a good thrower? I am not 100% sure but personally i would like to take to boost the weapon dice and or the weapon values,  ie x[ydz] then we can also play some with the threat range and critical value.

Now we have to keep in mind that this being a ranged weapon is a factor so kitting is a possibility ergo lets not make the uber ranged weapon but it would be nice to have a fair thrower when some of the mobs in EE quests have 30k (300k) hp.

So for a level 20+ (eN) lets say star i would want 2[2d2] 20 x3 with step ups of 2.5 for eH and 3 eE or improving the critical profile 18-20×3 is what a level 8 fairly easy to come by throwing weapon has, why is this too good for a Epic Elite item? Or if you really want to make me excited lets do something like 2[2d2] 20 x4, 2[2d2] 20 x5 for eH and eE versions. Pew Pew Pew CLANG!!!!!

As for magical properties, i would like to hear from you.

Personally i have felt that the magic items in the last few years have become unimaginative and often not worth the hassle for the amount of grind to dig up. I want something BAD ASS like the Glaive from Krull!

A weapon so bad ass you can’t help but flip off the baddie as you throw it. The last insult!

Javabot: 17/2/1 Report

Thought i would focus down and get some writing done today as apposed to hammering out a Commander MtG deck to learn that my General may or may not be banned just as i finish pass one of the deck. Not that this very thing happened yesterday….  grumble grumble

Anyway, thought i would do a little evaluation of things and see if i like them or not.

First off Java is level 24 now, at the last moment i decided to go 17/2/1 druid/fighter/wiz. The way i have things setup right now is about how i thought they might. Just to make life a little easier i will just show you a pic of my enchantment setup and spell layout. I could show you my destiny bs, but as i am leveling off destinies i am using whatever happens to be worth a turdnugget and Engery Burst/Imp Power Attack and Endless Faith.

ScreenShot00218

Okay back to details, as best as i can figure my damage per hit is not where i want it to be in Exalted Angel i am hitting the training dummy for all of 50ish points, which is just sad.  But i have a native 33% double strike so that is more like what 66 per hit? Still poopy. But my attack speed is fair and i am still just using an epic Kron’zek’s Cruelty. Which is not a bad weapon but it is not great right at the moment. But i press on.

Having a worth wild dodge score is weird. But might be worth some of the changes. That was why i took the last fighter level btw i could take mobility with that last feat. Distributed a well known player on Sarlona and a fairly new DG member made a compelling argument about erring on the side of not getting hit vs taking less damage. Not something i am used to doing with the AC system in this game, such as it is.

My PRR is just gone. Like i never had any. With the exception of a belt with 14 PRR slotted in a green slot every thing is more or less the same and what was 79 PRR is now 5. I think i am just missing something, but i am not sure what and i don’t like it. Okay i found a little bit of the missing PRR. I normally twist in the Legendary Shield Mastery, but i was leveling that destiny so i didn’t need to twist it in. Guess i need to twist it back in… On the plus side my double strike will hit 40% with out boosts.

Something i just noticed is the fact that i am missing 3 uses of Wild Empathy, not a huge deal on its own but i use those uses to power Flight and that is a big deal. 😦

Over all it is still hard to say what is better. I am still a few levels away from my best weapons. But i think the Skullcrusher next level will be a beast again now that i am proficient. I might have to let Tobril talk me into more Lobs again to make a not small version of my shield that was an error on my part.

Oh spells real fast. Even though i don’t have the spell slots to ready another form like i could before most of my core desires are covered as long as i prep the form i want to use before hand. But i am not impressed with some of my DCs even though i have my wisdom as high as i can make it can go at the moment. But most things trip or get shaken up but when things evade my Icy Burst i get a little pissed.

Still leveling at the moment and if i cap out and i don’t like it i guess i will just use that +20 to pick up another life and rock a little closer to completionest.

The Sad Bard?

So the thing on Sarlona is that PDKs are sad kids…. at least the male PDKS…. My plan is to make my bard very bangable. What lady Horcs are very fit. 🙂 Hmmm Smexy.

Okay i digress.

I have been looking at the epic past life feats (I will admit that I hadn’t taken a hard look at them) and i have to say some of them are fairly tight. Skill Mastery stands out to me, if you want to cross class trapper you often need all the help you can get. Colors of the Queen seems good and one on the guildies is really enjoying it. But right now i just can’t decide if it is worth the points for me at the moment. Because if i am reading this right you need the epic heart to go from 28 to 0 then there is some Karma loss but the wiki doesn’t say how much. So i am not sure.

What are the requirements? IDK… Right now my melee sphere is like 4/4/3 i think and that is only because i wanted to twist in cocoon and renewal while leveling to 28. Speaking of i have a lesser epic xp tome rarely used xp pots and went from 21 to 28 mostly doing eE quests with some eHards and i have been 28 for a week now and i have less then 2500 of those new com thingies (taking them over all other loot 99.9999% of the time). Don’t you need like 4200? And wasn’t that number chosen by people doing eHards to the cap? Me thinks someones maths were bad. I get wanting to get people to buy them from the store but or to grind them out after they hit 28 but come on. Tobril right now is just planing to be able to use the in game turn-in like every third epic tr. That seems crazy.

I don’t know. Unless feed back rolls in that i just must do the epic TR i think i will just heroic in to my PDK build. Speaking of if you are on Salrona and have a +1 heart for trade let me know. Sure Grim i know you said you would take a look but might as well cast a large net you know. I could also use my +20 heart but i think i would like to save it just incase i really fuck something up.

Okay i am going to peace out.

<3s

Elf Samius?

Okay before you all revolt with a title like Elf Samius I just want you to know while I am debating on a race change… spoiler I don’t think I will. I do want to talk about my reasons and my logic behind it.

I said reasons but really there is just one for a race change on my wiz, PRR. I have gotten lucky enough to be in on some good groups for a lot of the EE Giant Hold quests and I have noticed a personal weakness by my lack of PRR. Now I use a shield so I get like 10 PRR. Weeeee! Oh boy, I take like 5% less damage. When something hits me for 300+ after my 10 DR and 5% PRR meaning I still need to heal real fast. Even twisting in Cocoon and slotting in the 114 devotion on my shield I am still running super low and having to hope to not get hit again while firing off a heal scroll. I can’t make 300+ dc checks to keep the spell if I get hit.

To add PRR I could swap into armor like the E Blue dragon hide or Scale. The scale would be a little more PRR over the hide and has a skin I like over the hide but brings with it an ASF of 25%. So if we slot -15% ASF augment gem I would still have to deal with 10%…. Enter the Elf/Helf as options as they can reduce ASF with enchantments points.

But I would lose the Evasion that makes the 18/2 rogue splash so good, even if right now my Reflex save is only in the mid 40s which Tobril says is crap in EEs atm…

Also looking at the DDowiki’s Enhancement Alpha Page  run down, I don’t want to loose all the HPs from the fat Halfling race post changes…  Wonder if I can splash in a bard level and take warchanter for some ASF reduction…

No at least until the enchantment pass I think I will just stay Fat Halfling, use the hide armor and pick an armor skin that doesn’t suck. 🙂

Oh one last thing assuming I did the math right… with my bab being like 10 the non bab buffed PRR for Hide is 7 and the Scale is 11… Buff that with a Tenser’s or Divine Power (clickies) and the difference is a little wider 12 vs 18 but still not worth loosing evasion.

Scale 10 + 14 + 11 = or about 82% damage taken – evasion

(DP) 10 + 14 + 18 = 42 = about 77%

Hide 10 + 14 + 7 = or about 83% damage taken keep evasion

(DP) 10+ 14+11 = 82%

Now if I can just get one of those +3 Int items so I can free up my body slot…

<3s

Is that time again

With less then 200k until I TR Samius again it is time to start thinking about builds and what is left for him…

Double-checking Samius’ my.ddo page it looks like I have everything but Druid and Pally left to play out before opening up completionist. Then I have different questions to answer for myself… But for now the questions is Druid or Pally?

The other day before Gencon I was feeling burnt out on melee lives. Or maybe I was/am just tired of the different bowonk shells. Don’t get me wrong the bowonk is super strong and is covering all the bases in the HP/DPS/healing/ Xp per Min piles but how many lives in a row can I play with is more or less the same class? Again it is stupid strong to the point where I was auto attacking end quest boss fights last night and watching Sherlock on Netflix (btw it is really great! I ❤ the BBC most of the time even if they killed Coupling)

Leveling the pally will be the fastest on one of the Bowonk shells I am liking the 9/1 monk/arty shell in everyway (other then being burned out on the melee style) so it will have to wait until after a caster focused Druid.

So lets look at the Druid because I haven’t really looked at it all that much. The wife has one she is soloing with atm and she loves it.

So a quick look at the druid class and it looks good. Mostly shape changed focused with a sub focus on the pet. Uses the ¾ Bab, d8 hp and has Fort/Wis as good saves over all it is a tree hugging Clr.

And what do we know about Clrs? It is all about the DC and spell list, ie Clrs have the 2 best spells in DDo. Okay really the best 3 spells: BB, Destruction, and Heal.

Druids get Wall of Fire (lvl 9 ie just in time for Shadow Crypt and other Necro quests) , Finder of Death at level 15 just in time for Giant Hold. Looks like heal is also level 8 spell so level 15 but they also get Panacea and a ton of Regen like spells is ample self healing and catch all healing.

The question becomes do I splash a rouge level and/or 1 or 2 monk level or 2 monk levels or not?

I think getting to WoF is super important and their spell list handles most umd scrolls easy enough but they are missing some like teleport.

Anyway I think I will try out a pure druid unless hand wraps work while in animal form in which case I might have to add a few levels of monk after level 9 earth stance dire bear with a max Wis, stunning fist/stonedust wraps and a jidx/and a past life monk feat? Sounds sexy to me….
I foresee more reading on druid/monks for me.
