PowerWerds

Think everyone knows what one spell i would cast in “real live” if i could, Mordenkainen’s Magnificent Mansion. Winning! But what if i could cast a few other spells that more aligned with my real word needs? I don’t really need the power to kill with a word, but i can think of a few helpful PowerWerds i think we can all get behind.

PowerWerd: Flu, When you don’t want to kill someone but it would be great if they were just sick for a few days mostly to get them the hell out of your way.

PowerWerd: Diarrhea, see above but add in a little RIGHT THE FUCK NOW!

PowerWerd: Tantrum, have you ever just been with someone that is right on the edge and you just want them to lose their shit? This one is for you.

PowerWerd: Chill, like above when you just need someone to take a second and chill the fuck out!

PowerWerd: Horny, Could also be called wet, aroused or lustful but thought if it was a werd of power horny would sum it up nicely.

PowerWerd: Cum, sometimes the greatest superpower is orgasm vision some times it is heat ray vision. We have powerword kill so we must have its counter part.

PowerWerd: STFU, possibility the greatest of all the powerwerds just a simple be quite.

Well that is all i got at the moment, there were some other runners up for my list like vomit, trip, bark, choke and ruffie. Yep totally willing to cast PowerWerd: Ruffie when the situation calls for it.

Well what did i miss?

Heal vs Howl of Terror vs Earthquake vs Finger of Death?

Last night the TR Train crossed into level 15 opening up three level 8 spell slots to Javabot among a few other things. The first is auto filled with that level’s summoning spell leaving me with 2 slots.

What to do?

Being Wisdom based my DCs are more then fairly solid for heroic levels and are not bad for eHs and lower epics. DC casting in eE is just not worth the investment in my mind at the moment. I think people could make a go at it, even if they are never really pleased at where things stand at any given time….

Anyway, do I take one or both of the CC spells? Howl was super good leveling up on my own.

This life I have been playing much more aggressively then I tend to do when soloing. Gathering trash until Red skulled before turning to clear and being the first guy in the room when possible. What can I say having Tobril and Tim, as my insurance policy is both help and a hindrance. They let me be a little bolder as my failure does not mean the end of the quest but then our completive nature tend to ramp things up.

So back to the question, Howl is more of a save my nuts or a “hold” spell. Earthquake has a similar function but it does some damage and can pick up latecomers to the party after the spell has been cast. But has a hell of a long casting time for a guy with out quicken…

Finger is a key removal spell, but really it has about the same functionality as Creeping Cold right now, aka kills a guy.

Heal is about the same as Regen but with a larger up front payoff.

So as of last night my prepped spells are Howl and Finger. Earthquake is too slow and Heal’s main functionality can be replaced by Scrolls (if switching forms), panacea and of course regenerate.

I am also thinking about trying to go elemental over dog in a few quests to get a better feel for that form and to build a little personal experience with some of its interactions. And that will change my layout in lots of new and to me at this time unexpected possibilities….

Shiradi Stance + Animal Form Spells, NO?

So I have been really enjoying my Main Samius – Am(evoc)Wiz/rog in Shiradi with the different stances running. And I was talking with Tobril on Teamspeak about why I like the Rainbow/Double Rainbow line.

Then we finished up the raid we were running and I swapped to Javabot to get a little xp who happens to be a rank short of taking double rainbow at the start of our screwing off and after a few runs has the points to double up. I was so excited to see how this stance would boost Java’s Dps, as you all know he is a winter wolf melee style DC based druid so he could use a little boost to push him over into the big boy club…

But a few more quests looking for any rainbow procs and I saw none…

I could cast like an ice storm or an earthquake and see the occasional proc but nothing from the any of my wolf attack spells? That seems wrong to me.

They are offensive spells, they cost SP, use spell slots can’t be cast in anti-magic zones. WFT?

So I am turning in a bug report. And I will ask any of you that might also be rocking animal form druids to do the same. This seems wrong to me and needs to be changed.

Earthquake is the Greatest Spell, EVER!

Yep, I said it and I will stand by it. Earthquake is the best spell ever. Here is why:

IT TRIPS GLOWBALLS!

If I was a photo master like Geoff Hanna I would make some kind of poster with a bunch of glowballs laying on the ground with some witty text. But I am not, so use your imagination.

Last night my Tr group just finished up Dust (aka the save the spiders quest) and earthquake was a super star there. Yes it trips the hell out of spider. When the conversation turns in to “What is next?” talk. With 30sh mins left on ship buffs we all agree Running with the Devils should be next. And we don’t need to bother to rebuff because on Elite we will all die at least once. Damn, 200-point light rays.

The first room is often a real bear, sometimes setting the tone for the run. We decide that I will be the bait and Tobril and the wife will pull and kill guys off me. On a why not, try an earthquake while the guards wake up to kill us. Odds are good that they will be immune, might as well get a test out of the way.

Boom! 3 of the four trip before even transforming into their other forms. I yell come in earthquake works. And I trip the 4th guy with takedown. Doesn’t take a long and we hardly got a scratch. Quick look in the mirror, yep still smexxy and we are off.

We slow pull as able the guys wondering around the ground floor. And for the most part Tobril was able to ray them to come over and I could trip them with takedown and we would eat the bad men. We did get a group of 4-6 at one point but a quickened earthquake made them fall down and die to a furry of cold breaths and fireballs.

Making our way to the levers went smooth, also do to earthquake, stealth mode + quickened earthquake on glowball casters made things fairly fast if expensive in the SP department. I turned over my stack of SP pots to Tobril letting him be a blaster so we could move quickly.

Low on mana myself at the shrine things turned grim. The glowball I was targeting ran past me as I cast and the spell failed. The three of us split up each one taking a glowball. Tobril had the named genie as well and was the first to fall. At the point my slower cool down on my spells couldn’t keep up with the extra agro that I had picked up from him. And I fell not long after the wife lasted a little longer but by then Tobril and I had hit the shrine and were trying to recover when I chain lighting took Tobril out again, but right after the glowballs got in the earthquake effect and we ate them. And the genie died to a now fired up Tobril. (that is funny because he is a fire sorc) Post shrining we moved on and had no issues with the rest of the quest, trash died in earthquakes to fireballs and cold spells.

Even the big mean glowball died in quick order with Tobril blasting and the wife and I doting/healing Tobril. And we won, in about 36 mins, 21 pots later……We could have gone a little slower and saved pots but they are cheaper then the 30% pots we all had running.

Other things that trip in earthquake that might be note worthy, Lions and other dogs, Rust monsters, invisible stalkers (I think), I said spiders above (?) but not earth and air elies. Aka things with legs that are super hard to trip otherwise.

More Winter Wolf Goodness

Did you know that Druids get Flyby Attack at level 17 (ie level 9 spell)? But better? It is called Snowslide.

Snowslide:
Valid Forms: Winter Wolf.

You leap forward with the speed and ferocity of a sudden avalanche. You attack enemies in your path, dealing an extra 2[W], and targets caught in your wake are frozen solid for 20 seconds. A successful reflex save negates the effect, and creatures caught in the ice can attempt fortitude saves to escape every 3 seconds. Creatures frozen are considered helpless, but they also gain DR/Adamantine 5. (DC 19 + WIS mod) Added by Samius 10-13 sec cool down.

Okay so what is not super clear from that description is that it is an abundant leap like move. The closest thing I can find to it is Flyby Attack, which is a tear5 ED power in the sorc line. It has a 1 min cool down and slightly higher DC to trip.

So tell me what is better:
FvS wings/Air Sorc ass blast – 5 shots at a time slow regn unless your in town.
Monk leap – runs on Ki.
Snowslide – Wolf form only, Runs on Sp Short cool down, freeze people that fail a save.
Flyby Attack – Some damage, Trips (little bigger DC), Unusable until level 20 if you have the ED filled out already.

All I know is everything I loved in the Arty the Druid has more or less (minus Rune Arms), everything I hated is gone, plus uber healing and active combat spells but there are bugs. Many, many bugs to work around.

Over all there is something so much fun about running around as a wolf being and being a DC caster and having good melee options. Sounds a lot like how I felt about how Java was playing as a WF FvS, if only that kept up…..

Raiding as an Artificer

Raiding as an Artificer is a lot different then normal questing and challenge running is a lot different still. This weekend I got to try both raiding on my artificer and challenges (both epic and none epic).

Things I learned:

Even my sorc felt less squishy. In a raid group where there are people assigned to heal the party often over look the artificer. I guess, they are over looked as WF arties are so good at healing themselves and I guess the fleshy arties are rare monsters. I learned to life with a heal scroll in my hand any time I was not standing with the melees. The killer is the only time I died in an elite Vod we ran over the weekend I was both with the melees and standing in an healing aura and died waiting for a mass that never came….

Preping all the weapon damage buffs kills your other spell options. I don’t know about you but on my lvl 18 arty losing Radiant Forcefield and Prismatic Strike for silver and align weapons really hurts. And pulling a six level spell for Deadly often means putting your healing in someone else’s hands when it comes to that red bar.

Also you need to expect that people are dumb. Yes even other arties. At one point I heard, “Sam, can you re silver me?” I say sure and cast silver on that person (happened to be Fopo). Before too long Fopo sends a tell “Silver plz not cold iron”. I don’t even have cold iron prepped. So the other arty (who didn’t buff anyone that I know of) had to cast over my silver. With what happed to be a useless buff, almost harmful buff at that.

Sooner or later everyone wants something, just try to be super clear and flexible to giving buffs. People will have the wrong weapon out when they ask for a buff or die and need rebuffed. And you need to be able to help them out when it happens.

As for challenges you are great. The things that make you needed and wanted in raids weaken you in challenges. But swapping in to a casting, soloing layout is pure gold. Don’t get me wrong weapon buffs are important, but a good BBer that can also heal a tank while not burning SP to dps bosses is huge. More then one run I went after and killed the dragon and then ran back to the group in time to help fopo tank and kill the boss spawn. Then returned to clearing trash with the remaining sp.

The last big thing I think I learned this weekend is a pure arty is a lighting rod set on fire and doused in an acid bath aka no evasion so so at best reflex saves is a killer. Find room for more then just the normal 30 fire/cold/elc/acid/sonic and pro of the same. Find room for those 33% fire and elc absorption item/s.

But I really love the class, to the point that I am thinking of returning to it and not the Wizard post Completionest feat…
