Standing Out and/or Out Standing?

Yesterday i sent off my resume/cover letter to another game company, one i think would hit all my check boxes for a really long time.  But i really wanted to stand out in a hopefully fun/good way at least i would like to get a reply this time vs just hearing nothing forever and ever. So this time i went way out of my box of tricks in hope to stand out and keep me in mind as they are reviewing applicants.

Drum Roll…..

I made a word search with lots of words describing me and my skills. Who can resist a word search? Not me, that is for damn sure.

So i thought why not make a DDo word search for you all?

Random Encounter, 3-26

Okay, i know i have been a little lax lately, mostly distracted with things like looking for work and working on outside. It is starting to green up a little, and in the green house things are looking good. Anyway i had an idea for quick but creative content, Random Encounters.

How this will work; make yourself a first level dnd character. Name, class, stats, weapon (non magic/non special) with a to hit and damage for said weapon, feats, other whatnots and HPs! Keep track of those Hps they will carry over each encounter until you rest.

Today, is your first day post adventurer school, you just graduated from Wand’s School of Dungeon Crawling and you on your way home to for a break before meeting up with a group of classmates to start your adventuring career.

Your just chill’n walking home…. when Two wild dogs attack!

You have 4 options.

Run, Fight, or try to Feed them and class options like hold animal or some shit.

Run: roll a d20 on a 15-20 you evade if you fail you are forced to fight and get no xp for running away. If you do run away you get 100xp.

Fight: roll initiative, the dogs will go on a 12 (7Hp – 1 bite attack +2/1d4+1) and 5(4Hp  – 1 bite attack +2/1d4+1) and will attack first if able. Dogs will run off when one dog drops to 2 or less hps. If you win you get 400 xp. If you loose you wake up some unknown amount of time (at 1 hp) later with your pack ripped open your food gone and your other meager items destroyed or randomly scattered all over the trail. (50 xp)

Feed: roll initiative, like Fight above. During your action you can bribe the dogs with your hard tack even if they are attacking you but once you attack one of them then they can not be bribed any longer and you have to Fight it out as above. To bribe the dogs you must roll a 11+ on a d20. On a roll of 17+ you become pack leader and you get 2 new pets. At least for a little bit. For feeding the dogs you get 400xp. If you have to Fight use the Fight xp given.

Class abilities: If you have something like a class skill or ability you want to use look at Fight roll initiative and then use the Dog @ dandwiki to find your results. Again 400 xp for winning with your class ability or use the Fight block.

Okay if you like this and want to see more let me know. I can do a few of these a month no problem.

Enter Helper-Woman…

Back in the old’n days Tobril and I had “helper” alts in different level ranges to help people that have trouble leveling on their own for whatever reason.  Most often, at least for the people that ask me for help, was a lack of focus or enjoyment of quests at a given level range.

Enter classic problem; as you start to play said alt character you start to enjoy that manz and you have a pile of xps just siting there next thing you know you don’t have anyone in range to help next time.

This has only gotten worse as reasons to TR have grown. Lately i have had 3 or 4 people not as much asked for help as kinda hinted around at it and i have had to decline/offer explorer zone help/or hurt their best possible xp as the lowest i had available was a level 20. After 20 i have a slew of alts from 21 -28 so there is not so much an issue as it is before 20.

Okay enter Helper-Woman aka Samdarkai.

ScreenShot00284

She is a Rogue/Pally mix Shadar-kai, 13/2 at the moment although i am debating about taking a few levels as a wizard for some easy boosts. But unlike most of my current design ideas (epic Elite viability) this one has a whole new range of issues, namely a level cap of 18 and balancing the ability to solo any quest from 16 to 20 on heroic elite while also covering any missing skills/abilities that the person i am helping is missing PLUS letting them have all the glory assuming they are playing a future EE alt with the desire to be in the limelight.

In the past some of my “helper” alts were a little quest dominant making some of the people i was helping not feel needed and then it just takes longer for said person to level, which is not part of the plan.

In any case i have now “invested” too much to turn back now, aka tomes and btcoe gear.

Well wish me luck as i try and power this chick to level, do not die in every single level 16 on elite quest, unlike my time with her last night and the night before. 🙂

News from the Greenhouse

Today i want to share a few images i took this morning from the greenhouse.

So this is the current setup for the aquaponics. I plan to have another flood and drain tray to the right again but the tray i used last year had a crack and i was slowly loosing water. So i plan to replace it with the other tray i already have setup. I also hope to have a little more support  setup this year so the tray can stay level and not weigh down on the tank directly.

Something i am trying is using that rain gutter extension as my water return. So far it seems to work well but i am worried now that we are out of the store that it might be too not dark, ie will let too much light in and let algae grow in the return which is not something i want. However, i am thinking i might be able to put some clay pebbles in these tubes with light holes cut in them and have an easy to make drip tube. The ridges should hold the pebbles well enough as long as i can get enough pebbles to stay in place for the plants to be able to grow a reasonable root system.

These two picture what i was able to grow or over winter with no heat. A fairly sad Swish Chard (Top) and some fairly healthy lettuce (Left) even if i started with eight heads and now i have like 3. That just means that i will be able to use this tray for something else soon, right?

This is the current salad bowl trays, to the left (or top damn werdpress fuckn tags hello!) is lettuce and the right (bottom) spinach. They are doing well and are right on plan.

Most of the tomatoes we started from seeds are taking off. I ordered i guess two different breeds this year, Big Beef and Sugar Sweetie. If i am lucky i will like the taste of one of them. But i wouldn’t count on it. And i assume that we will end up picking up at least 3 or 4 more that are ready to plant from the store later, we always do.

Speaking of things from seeds. I ordered like 5 different HOT peppers this year. Including the Trinidad Scorpion aka the hottest pepper around at about 1,463,700 Scovilles. For some degree of scale a Jalapeno rocks s cool 3500-8000 Scovilles. My brother in law was taking a good game last year about eating all the peppers. We will see, we will see.

Guess, i will end with one last image of the strawberries that wintered over. They look like shit but hey if i don’t have to buy new strawberries… well shit i already did and i planted like 30 of them in one of the buckets. I might have a lot of strawberries. Tasty.

In other planting/Gurobo Farms news looks like we are going to try potatoes, bulb onions, and garlic. We haven’t grown any of these things well not intentionally anyway.  Also we have decided to add ducks to our backyard farm animals. Yep, Old McGruobo had a farm E-I-E-I-O. Hell i am even debating on adding a float try to the system full of crawfish. Why not one more group of animals?

PowerWerds

Think everyone knows what one spell i would cast in “real live” if i could, Mordenkainen’s Magnificent Mansion. Winning! But what if i could cast a few other spells that more aligned with my real word needs? I don’t really need the power to kill with a word, but i can think of a few helpful PowerWerds i think we can all get behind.

PowerWerd: Flu, When you don’t want to kill someone but it would be great if they were just sick for a few days mostly to get them the hell out of your way.

PowerWerd: Diarrhea, see above but add in a little RIGHT THE FUCK NOW!

PowerWerd: Tantrum, have you ever just been with someone that is right on the edge and you just want them to lose their shit? This one is for you.

PowerWerd: Chill, like above when you just need someone to take a second and chill the fuck out!

PowerWerd: Horny, Could also be called wet, aroused or lustful but thought if it was a werd of power horny would sum it up nicely.

PowerWerd: Cum, sometimes the greatest superpower is orgasm vision some times it is heat ray vision. We have powerword kill so we must have its counter part.

PowerWerd: STFU, possibility the greatest of all the powerwerds just a simple be quite.

Well that is all i got at the moment, there were some other runners up for my list like vomit, trip, bark, choke and ruffie. Yep totally willing to cast PowerWerd: Ruffie when the situation calls for it.

Well what did i miss?

Candy Cane, Gun, Ghost

Not long ago the guild and i were rocking a Crucible when we got to the wheel puzzle on top of the maze. I had to afk real fast when i heard someone poke fun at my names for the symbols for the wheels.

I am shocked! My names are clear as glass and i can’t see how anyone could want to poke fun at them.

ScreenShot00267

Candy Cane

Clearly the image above is a candy cane. There is room to call it “f” and i would except that also but clearly a cane like shape in there.

ScreenShot00269

Gun, Hat, Ghost

The reason i don’t call candy cane “f” is because a lot of people call Gun “F”. The leftest most symbol is Gun by the way. In the middle is Hat. I call it that because it looks like a head wearing a hat. But i have heard it called all kind of things but most often hat. The most right is a Ghost from pacman.

ScreenShot00270

Ghost, H, I

Once again from left to right because i am american and that is how we do things. we see the edge of Hat, Ghost, H then what i call “I”. Think “H” is the most commonly used symbol for that one and shouldn’t need a lot of explanation. But “I” guess that one is on me. I just see a capitol I when i look at this one, but i know lots of people say bow or cross or i even heard someone call it T before. Want to say the other day i looked real close and saw something else in the image but i can’t seem to remember. Maybe i should rename this guy road kill. It kinda looks like a flated animal…

Well work just called and asked if i could come in a little early so i am off to work.

PewPewdate?

I just want to say that i am fairly please where Samius is heading at the moment. I have returned to epic levels,  almost 27 actually and the new build is working out fairly well even though i am super under geared. The style is a little different but once i get a few key gear slots filled i should be fairly solid to stop kiting everything in sight forever. I have been able to keep my EE streak going even though i am soloing for the most part now during the weekdays. With my new job being in the afternoon i only get an hour or so to team up with the Brits if they even get on before i need to go. But it is not so bad. Maybe once i get a little more geared up i will even try my luck at a pug or two…. if i am drinking… of feeling overly generous.

Speaking of gear my trusty vorpal of rightness star now with icy burst, has been working over time. And i am trying to decide if i would rather hunt for a cool spell touched or start the Thunder Forged crafting… Maybe both?

I will leave you all with an image of me doing the first bit of the Lords of Dust. Yes i am giving people the purple ball of take less damage… I am not sure if it is Colors of the Queen or a new “perk” in double rainbow. But Dis used to get a ton of tasty ham barrels, i make my guys take less damage. Really who is the winner here?

Shutterbug

I was a bit of a shutterbug yesterday and thought why not share?

Ever watch Loth eat a man?

Ever watch Loth eat a man?

I am slowly leveling that last little bit to 28. Normally i have the DG whom i talk into helping me make a huge push to cap out. eXp is a lot slower when you are doing it alone. Right now i am mostly doing the 3 simi easy epic quests then explorers or trying to pick up missing saga pieces like the above quest.

FU_elminster

Fuck you Elminster!

Moving on to the next quest in the chain i get all the way through the quest when i notice that a flag did not complete…. I log in my alt account and have Steampower join and practically rerun the quest and i was able to proc the follow dickface to check off but not the leave the Under-dark…  I didn’t want that xp anyway!

Come on Nightfall, there be werewolfs to but to sleep!

Come on Nightfall, there be Werewolfs to but to sleep!

After my frustrations with quest objectives checking off, i decided to just run a few explorer zones. Sweet shot no?

Well that was my day in ddo. Now to get that last 200K or so just in time to TR for the weekend.

Credits?

Long time readers/people that have to sit and listen to while i do things, know that i have had more then a passing interest in a thrower build in DDo. But they have never panned out, mostly because of how the hps of mobs in DDo scale upwards as the levels add up.

Then when the enhancement+ destinies pass was making waves over in the Mornlands, Tobril and I talked about a possible thrower build a few times but nothing really came from it.

Then about 4-5 months back, Tobril says to me while i am bemoaning the state of Samius’ current “final” life to a Magic Missile build , that Distributed (Ilindith on the DDo Forums) has a throwing build that i might like. And while some things i didn’t really care for in the build, Dis proved to me that a throwing build is finally a good build in the current end game.

So it has been sitting in my brain for a few months then Dis finally joins the Defense Guild and we have time to talk about the build. I tweak some things. He tweaks some things. And we kinda have a core idea.

Then i post my leveling sheet and ask him for his input, which he does.  He doesn’t like Epic Destiny: Doubleshot feat by they way. He logic is you are almost constantly rocking the massive penalty from 10Kstars or manyshot so why bother trying to have a Doubleshot value if you are going to have that massive penalty most of the time. Sound logic, so i have an extra feat to find a home.

Anyway, he makes a comment about not giving him any love for giving me the idea of a throwing build. And i am like

Say What??!

And in like 3 mins i find my first throwing build post, (which looks a lot like yesterdays post but with a few less details) dated back in March, 2012 i think.

But then i started thinking did i ever really give him the big love for showing me that a throwing build is now finally an option? I know i have posted a lot of things in the last few weeks on thoughts that he has jumped started in my brain, but looking back there isn’t much credit given. And i tend to do that, so thanks Dis for the ideas.

Anyway, i want to to point out his throwing build. He posted the details yesterday i think for anyone to comment on, here: Shurikens-v2.

Also in thanks i want to share this:

Partly in Thanks, mostly because Uhura is hot.

As always use the comments for thoughts.  I am tempted to go arty vs Rogue there are a few perks for each side. I am leaning towards more sneak attack dice and maybe a minor melee option with staffs for leveling and as needed.  Also i am conserned with the low open lock but i am not 100% comfortable with the trap locations in a lot of quests so seems like a worth wild trade off. I could also see going a point less in dex for another skill point a level. So something to thing about there. Now i just need to look at enhancement points.
