First Rule of Healing

The first rule of healing is to heal yourself first; you can’t heal anyone if you’re dead. I know this. You know this. So why am I dying with my heal spell on cool down?

Because for some reason I believe that I can make it long enough for the regn/vigor to tick and get me back out of the danger zone and person that just got my heal would not have made it. Think most of the time I do make it and that is just normal happy questing but those times when I don’t make it I can’t help but wonder was there some sign that I missed letting me know that I should heal myself and try to save person X after I am safe…

This weekend is where I noticed a lot of getting in over my head to the point where I tweeted that I needed to stop taking Javabot into Madstone because I had now died for the third time in that quest. On Samius I have done a few two-man hards and no deaths and an EE also no deaths. So why is Java having so many issues?

Because he is more battle clr then healbot so he is in the action when he should be standing to the side. I really need to work those muscles.

But I was able to cap him last night and thanks to the keys of destiny being on sale I am over into the arcane destinies. Currently working my way out of the Bard line and into the Sorc line. Once the Sorc is maxed then I will take a look at making my way over into the primal destines mainly the sleeper Shiradi Champion.

Shiradi Champion is good enough that I am tempted to max it out on Samius and use it for Epics…

But will it help Java stay alive when I let myself fall in to the battle harder then I should? Only trying it will tell.

Well I want to do gear lists for the other main guys this week taking the GH gear into account.

Build thoughts for Anne, on the Quick

*Due to a massive snow storm that hit Kansas work closed early and i was scrambling most of the day and didn’t get this posted. I will be knocking out a proper post for today later but for now…

So I got to catch up on DDocast yesterday and on this weeks show Anne asked for build help for a soloing melee (assumed) clr/fighter/monk(?) build…. And while I should take a few more days to think things over wook is taking a snow day and I just need to put out a blog so instead of writeing about Epic GH like everyone else lets do some build talk! I think you can stay 12/7/1 Anne but you might still need a +1 heart…

First thought is if you’re doing a 1 lvl splash classes that are best are Arty, Fighter and barb. Monk is okay, but these other options are just better. Me I really love Arty for ranged feats and the +1 weapon buff. Hey +1 to hit and damage is amazing and having a lever opener that can die in traps all day long is nice that and she already has fighter levels.

Next is play style, Sword and Board is the nuts for soloing. Add in enough PRR and good self-healing and you may not be the uberest dps but you will get through almost anything. So Defender 1 for sure, taking about prestige classes we don’t want to forget Radiant Servant 2.

So I missed race, TR lives and gear specs so I am just going to be fugue on stats and whatnot and just give out lines for those things. But like many builds this one will be a big amp build meant to last in a fight not finish fast and heal when the fight is done. So Con is more important Str, Chr has double duty for Arcane buffs as well as healing and you will want enough Int for cross-classed UMD and balance, and you need just enough wisdom to cast a owls wisdom if you loose your Wisdom item.

As for a fully fleshed out build, there are just too many options for 20 mins build time to really look at in detail.

Well good luck Anne, hope you find something that works for you. Now if you want a 18/1/1 fighter/barb/arty build let me know and I can get you a few plans…

Call me: Heal Dodger!

This was a hell of a tough weekend for some people, including myself at times, in game. But mostly it was hard on the wife, as her lvl 23 clr got to heal our EE group.

The wife is still finding her footing again as the healer. She has taken a break to level her Bowonk and TR her main a few times into a druid which in her words is not a healer.” Letting Grim’s ladylove, Will, play her rogue was both a break and a curse. I watched again and again as Will (and others) jumped out of the healing aoe just as the mass was landing then fail to stay alive.

Last night when Tobril and I switched to our “little” people he let me know just how often I was jumping out of the mass about once every three mins. Lets just say it was a good thing I had a 30% xp pot running to cancel all the -10% no death bonus I lost us. ☹.

Lets see:

In Dust I fell on to the spike traps and when I tried to jump out I somehow triggered it 3 more time at 200 a hit 4 hits makes a very dead Javabot.

When running with the devils I went to move Phlor’s alt up, yes I was dual boxing his account, a part member pulled some glowballs right to Java’s unmoving body. That was not the last death in that run.

In Coal Chamber.. No I didn’t die. Nor did I get lost. Tobril? I don’t think he died either… But he was lost more then once.

Rainbow I, ate a 400+ point fireball just after I took a 100 point hit from something and I cast a Heal over time vs heal. Had I been at full I think I would have lived, but as I was on my first tic I was less then full and died.

RitSac: Earth grappled to death hard. Real hard! I was less then pleased.

I really like the Druid but I need to be faster on that heal I guess. When Java was a FvS his 3 key (the easiest one for me to push) was heal (quicken) Maybe it needs to be again.

All that said, but it was a good weekend. We did the first and second Web chains on EE for some it was new favor and on Streak. The TR train is shroud flagged again and I can go and solo them on hard or normal a few times before leveling to 19. Yes it is worth leveling to get some 21s for ToD flagging on elite so I can be once and done with all of them but Sins.

Any way how is your timing when it comes to jumping out of the melee?

Being Tanky, Samius Style?

I said yesterday that I would talk a little today about how Samyus has been playing. Also I want to talk a little about his gear and setup. So lets just jump in.

EDs, Right now EDs are the real deal when it comes to tweaking out post 20. Sure we have two more feats slots to fill out and a few stats points to assign. But the real power post level 20 is in those EDs.

At the moment I am level 4 in the Sentinel line, with some in Flowers and Juggernaut. Sentinel is right what I needed. Good Damage negation via a funky life shield stance, lots of extra dps with the different extra weapon damage and most importantly for me great self-healing. Finally!

Some time back, like maybe last week, I got a (as in 1) use of Lay on hands. With my current level of Chr (12) and my amp it does a staggering 19 hp of healing. I am right there baby! But over the weekend I opened up Light the Dark and it is amazing! With my amp as is I get around 350 hp back and if Tobril is standing near by I want to cut myself as he is getting 725 or so, what a dick. With that being so helpful I took all the ranks I could in Endless lay on hands and would take more if they would give them to me. Four hits and I remax up my hp and the regen of hands its not too bad. I even was able to play Medic in an eN DQ raid (3man) thanks to Light the dark. Think I might have used 1 silver flame pot while the party ran to me before using my aoe heal. It has been super helpful and is saving me a ton is pot costs. Which is good as I ma super broke atm.

I am really looking forward to taking Purify/Anoint weapon. I will need to make a new Efang or two to slot with more metal types but that is okay to have the best one handed tanking weapon ready to go for every boss.

Think I have talked about my Twists before so I will be quick, but Running with Wind has been great. More movement allows me to stay in Stance and stay with the group. From Juggernaut I have twisted in Legendary Tactics. Making my Stun DCs good enough for a lot of stuff with out a stunning 10 item. Hoping to pull one of those new rings soon. Or I might break down and start running Lob to make a trash shield.

I had planed to twist in Momentum Swing but after trying it out the 5[w] doesn’t grow as you spend points just its recovery chance and threat range. Which makes it good and all but I just don’t know if it is twist worthy atm…

I would try for Flyby attack because it would look cool. But that is a lot of work for a not of payoff. Healing Spring from Shiradi Champ and or Fast Healing from Fury of the Wild looks sweet but do I need more healing? No, well not yet anyway…. Anyway if you have any ideas for what else to twist in let me know.

Anyway gear is fairly simple, got my Purple set which is good. But I am thinking about fitting in the abiashi set of (bracers, boots and cloak) for normal play. More dps is more better, right? And now that I have my head better around the Ac changes my bracers of wind that was 4 ac is now 1% dodge bonus for a groovy 8% dodge. Wow! So netting 3 dps and what 3 ac might be worth losing 1 dodge and blur. Tobril can cast that Shit on me again. Or I can make a blury HP GS goggles netting a Displacement clickly.

We have been splitting end game nights between epics and challenges for Mats, most of us are just hunting tokens to slot things but upgrading things has been taking some mats as well. It has been a few weeks since I raided other then DQ 2-3 manned. I think that there might be some Defense Short man Vons happening soonish so that will be fun too.

Well back to work.
