Kicked in the Balls, but I am still Smiling.

Last night the DG formed up and did a Web and A EE Tor… You know I remember back when 3ish hours of play was more then 2 quests… But that is a tangent for another time. No today I want to tell you about how I just kept getting kicked in the nuts in that EE tor.

Before we started the Tor I reset some of my destinies and some twists planning for the EE Blue dragon. That guy is still causing me problems. But the rest of the quest is fairly easy.  So naturally I was clicking on Cocoon when some random giant crits me (as I have swapped out extra fort for energy shield…) right at the start of the quest. I mean in the first 10 mins. And LEAD the killed count.

During the boss fight I had the agro of the boss and at least 1 skelly. Down to 100 sp I let people know I am going to shrine and someone needs to take the boss so I can go. In a few secs the boss is off me and I take a hit. Instead of DDing and leaving I try to heal first then I plan to DD. Nope another killer hit. Death 2.

I get rezed first thing DD. Heal on the way to the shrine and rest up. I get back to the fight. Firing off one chain missile and 3 magic missiles at the boss as my target and for some reason 2 of the caster skellies and one of the barb skellies break off whoever has had their agro this whole time and roll me. Hold Monster and a few other spells take me low, just as I break free I get reheld and hit by the barb skellie. Ding again. Death 3.

Thankfully, I lived to the Black Dragon fight with out another death and I was good through the fight, one dragon down, two to go. During this time another guildie logged on and joined our group. But he took more then one death durning the Black fight and raged logged just before the wall went down and refused to get back on to loot the chest. One less puller. L But on the up side one person (not a DG) pulled the True Imp Blood augment. So that was a nice pull. I tried to roll on it even thought he wanted it but I lost the roll so /cry. J

After we looted I ran over to were the Tor boss fight is and started to clear that room one fight at a time. Assuming everyone was right behind me. I looted all the gold, the chest and shrined what could they be doing? I get held again and killed, look over at the wife’s Screen and they are still in the black room buffing? /facepalm…

The rest of the quest was poking fun at me for being squishy. But at this time I only had one more death then the other caster, who was leading the poking fun charge. But I gave as good as I got. And when his death count (White Dragon fight) caught up to mine I pointed out that he was just squishy as I was… and that was good times.

Then the Blue… Everything was going well. We prepped the giant. I left Rainbow off as to not perma dot him. And we all switched to the dragon. I get low on trash and Cocoon is not enough and I pop a heal scroll but it is too late and I take a huge hit from the giant who should have been on the sorc, ding! There are a few more deaths, but the wife lives long enough to throw not one but two rezs my way as I take a ball lighting right as I take the rez as a ranged person runs trash to the wall where people are coming back to life.

She throws another one and I see her fail the concentration check due to another bloody ball lighting. Tobril throws me a rez so I can start rezing others but I move away from the trash and it vanishes. I hate when that happens.  We all decide that he should just kill the dragon/giant as they are prepped but I think he threw one more rez at the sorc and it was a good thing he did as about then he drinks a silver flame pot, fails a save and is slowed and he dies. The sorc pops up and blasts hard with both guys at a sliver and we win.

The DG was skunked minus Tobril getting the Cold/force stick but think as a whole we had at least 1 named item per chest. Just would have loved getting the hat I want.

Want to say finished that quest with around 5-6 deaths. But I kept a smile on my face because I was having fun. Maybe once I find that hat I can start the massive gear shuffle and I wont be a squishy little Halfling any more.

Random Thoughts: Weapon Changes

I have been looking at gear for my rogue. One of the really great things about TRing an unloved under geared alt into something totally different is you can think about gear from a totally fresh place. Ie this guy was a clonk so almost none of his old gear aligns with his new life, unlike say Javabot going from Wizard to Pally to Fvs to Druid. All caster melee dps typed/geared builds. So being untangled can be a good thing.

So what do I do when my amazing level 4 gear starts to feel old? Hit the DDowiki. In this case I am looking at minimum 6-8 weapons.

Vorpal sickle of haggling: Man I would like to have one of these now between the vorpal changes and it would be a great off hand weapon.

But this is about changes not things I can’t get anymore.

Xoriat Forged Blade: Man this guy is real good now, +3 flaming, anarchic and a red slot long sword. Good but not super impressive until you notice that its damage dice is now 2d5… Yep it is almost a one handed greatsword. At level 6 this guy is fairly impressive.

Serpentbranch: +3, poison +6 to poison saves, purple and a red slot long bow 1.25[d8] but it is still BtA. Think I will farm one of these up super fast. I have an alt on my main account parked on the last bit I can use her or I can burn threw real fast on a capped alt.

Mace of Smiting: It picked up a red slot and is now a d10. That d10 change should have been applied to your old maces so getting a new one for a red slot is not really necessary.

Mace of Wrath: +3, ghost touch, force and a red heavy mace d8 just a really solid ghost killer think I will stick with a cannith crafted ghost touch flametouched iron X of everbright but this is a solid toy for breaking ghost bone times.

Sword of the Thirty: This is a real sleeper. +3, keen with a red slot greatsword 1.25[3d4] this is a really excellent no gear having Alt weapon. Stick one of the force rituals on it and your under geared melees are good to go.

Level 8s

Nightforged: All the Nightforged weapons got a nice boost. Most of them are now 1.5[d] and picked up a red slot want to say they picked up profile boosts. Like the avenger blade is now 18-20 and the hammer is x4 the dagger got the biggest boost in my eyes as they are slashing and piercing and extended crit range. Oh and the other stuff is nice too but I will save not weapon stuff for later.
Luckblade: This guy is a leveling casters dream as it picked up red, orange and purple slots. It is only +2 so adding spell power only gives a small implement bonus but hey 3 slots for spellpower are covered. Melees might like it as it is [d7] now and 3 slots cover a lot of stuff…

Most of the Tempest Spine stuff got a big boost. Enough I might even do some loot runs now at least for newer alts. The Nightblade and the Star of Irian got a real power boost.

Threnalian War X: These are with getting now. Red and purple slots on +5 weapons they both got a die step up AND 1.5[]ed. Casters if you only need two slots for spellpower then these guys are your leveling implements.

Okay I have covered my quota for the day. I will keep running this down in the coming weeks but lets just say there are some winners and some not winners in the loot changes. And if they are good I will let you know.

Worth farming for?

I am not a huge farmer, don’t get me wrong if I want something I will chase it hard until I decide it is just not happening or I find a better replacement. Point I wanted a Breach from Web on my Dps guy. Got the greataxe and said good enough. I am still slowly grinding out the my 20th DQ on that guy hoping almost against hope for that base Marlth Chain to epic up…But is there any real chase items from epic Gh for me?

The main item is the Int Cloak for sure, that is where I want my Int 99% of the time. Happens to have 8 chr and Spell pen (once fully upgraded), Samius current stats wet dream. Although how many more +8 stat items can we have laying around before a +9 happens?

All the other raid loot seems, blah…

The Crucible has the Skullsmasher that I talked about a while back; want one of those for Java for sure.

Madstone has what I think is one of the best items in the set, Girdle of Giant’s Brawn. 8 str and 2 slots… I can make that work nicely.

PoP is kinda a loot fail. Dream Visor has the potential to be really good. Mainly because of the set changes, can I assume this will stack with weapons and ship buffs?

Cry and Discord, Arkat’s Cord is a must have for my Druid. I don’t want to use wraps for Reinforced fists and my as a WF I can’t use an outfit. So this is one of my only options for that kind of boost. Not sure it is going to work even…

Cabal and Feast might be the best solo runs for loot as even the eN one are okay. But I can see hunting up a few pair of wraps for my dogs. ☺ But I could see my PM using the Madstone Orb….

Maze/Trial the Jeweled cloak is not bad at all…

But as always it looks like Tor is where it is at! Almost all the items have uses even if you have to build around them I can see some builds using the Field optics full time and the gloves from the white dragon are sweet also.

The blue dragon has some tasty loot options, including the best rune arm I have seen so far after the unlocked Tovin’s. And I could “could” see myself putting my GS/robe for a blue set if “IF” I got the right blue hat. Maybe. I would have to use an armor with a good PRR…

The black has some good drops also but mostly I want the +1 all stats augment… That would make sloting a lot easier.

Over all the loot is a 7 out of 10. The last gear I was really excited about was the purple set and the EE bastion. Since then the new gear has been fairly flat…

Back to work and mail unloved EE GH loot to Samius on Sarlona.

I LOVE Me NICE Axe!

Normally I am not a big fan of axes. They have a place in my tool box, but normally I use them at low levels for impressive one shots. But over all axes feel very swingy to me and as I get into the levels I like my damage numbers to be consistent. I like knowing for example with in 8-15 points what my damage rolls are going to be, even if that means I am doing less damage over all. To me it allows me to plan things to prevent “Its him or ME” moments.

I am doing 90s points a swing.
The mob has about X hp left x/90= y swings.
Mob is hitting for Q so I have Q/hp= hits left.
Do I need to move off and heal?

We all have that same mental guess work the methods are not always the same however. Some people (like me) do fast guess work math; others use the seat of their pants “feelings”.

Darth, so far has been a falchon kind of guy. He was when he was a barb and that just stuck around as a fighter. As a Kensei let me tell you criting on a 14 and better is sweet and with all the different prereqs to make kensei 3 happen if the mob can be crit and I roll that 14+ I will crit. But even with a x2 I am getting very large swings, most crits are in the 300-500 range but my biggest so far has been 1693. So there is a little room in the how hard do I hit department.

My plan was simple, farm web for
Breach
And be happy.

But then shards and scrolls started to happen and suddenly an epic Antique in is reach.

Which is kinda the king of dps DR breakers unless you have a stack of the right temp augments to slot in as needed, which I don’t….

Meanwhile, Tobril has been working on his tanky guy and has been talking up the some of the Axe abilities in Legendary Dreadnought. Namely Headman’s Chop… +1 to the multiplier with axes on a 19-20…

Those two things and the endless web hunting for the Breach made me wonder if a
Axe
wouldn’t be more damage, IF I could live with the swingy nature.

Running a Web last night I pulled (okay was passed) a
Hammer
And it was doing 100-120 a hit before crits, which really is a major step up over my other S&B weapon

IDK, what do you think of this on my Kensei?

First of all switch to Greataxes so crit range goes back to 18-20 (1×2+1=3) but the crit multiplier gets huger?? With lots of Seeker, Overwhelming Critical, all the Kensei damage boosts I can’t see an easier way to get those massive crits then to switch to the Greataxe… Can you?

A Night of the Mad Lootz, Yo!

So epic Tuesday started of well enough, once we started up. Tobril and I headed off to do a DQ. With the changes epic hard is about the right amount of work/challenge for the two of us to solo on melee alts. Turns out we didn’t need to plan on just the two of us as a few more people jumped in as we were flagging. And they joined us for the raid.

We mostly got skunked in the raid chest but it turns out to be a 20th for Tobril and he ended up taking a piece of gear he was missing from his collection. My reward list was fairly solid and I almost took a random drop that looked solid enough to use on an alt or two that is kinda gearless over a chr tome but going a double check that tome was +3 and unbound. Hmmm think that tome might be a little more of a help…

We loose some and gain some as the rest of the mountain time people get logged in as we wrap up a chrono. Stole a cloak scroll from a random trash mob in the sewer. And I picked up a seal I didn’t have so even thou there wasn’t any shards worth anything (think the staff was in the chest..) I was happy.

Moved on to some loot running type epics in hope of getting some more parts for the tower shield by running Lords of Dust and Servants of the Overload. Don’t remember any worth wild pulls seal or shard wise but hey you never win if you don’t try. I did pull a ring with a large guild slot in it ☺ from the reward giver.

I also noticed over the night it seem like everyone in the group pulled at least 2 epic scrolls, one guy got 3 and another 4 I think. Not a horrible pull record from where it was before, now if we can just get some seals and shards…

Then we moved into the FR and knocked out that first chain. After the first three quests we went back and gathered our rewards and got ready for the capstone quest and in my first reward list was a +3 con tome. Winner Winner.

So my hall for the night was 2 +3 tomes, a large guild slot ring one good Chrono scroll and some random Web scroll. All in all: Mad Lootz Yo.

Btw, I am watching Breaking Bad (it is a new show to me, Netflix streaming Ftw) so Yo might work its way into my writing some…
