Standing Out and/or Out Standing?

Yesterday i sent off my resume/cover letter to another game company, one i think would hit all my check boxes for a really long time. But i really wanted to stand out in a hopefully fun/good way at least i would like to get a reply this time vs just hearing nothing forever and ever. So this time i went way out of my box of tricks in hope to stand out and keep me in mind as they are reviewing applicants.

Enter Helper-Woman…

Back in the old’n days Tobril and I had “helper” alts in different level ranges to help people that have trouble leveling on their own for whatever reason. Most often, at least for the people that ask me for help, was a lack of focus or enjoyment of quests at a given level range.

Enter classic problem; as you start to play said alt character you start to enjoy that manz and you have a pile of xps just siting there next thing you know you don’t have anyone in range to help next time.

This has only gotten worse as reasons to TR have grown. Lately i have had 3 or 4 people not as much asked for help as kinda hinted around at it and i have had to decline/offer explorer zone help/or hurt their best possible xp as the lowest i had available was a level 20. After 20 i have a slew of alts from 21 -28 so there is not so much an issue as it is before 20.

Okay enter Helper-Woman aka Samdarkai.

She is a Rogue/Pally mix Shadar-kai, 13/2 at the moment although i am debating about taking a few levels as a wizard for some easy boosts. But unlike most of my current design ideas (epic Elite viability) this one has a whole new range of issues, namely a level cap of 18 and balancing the ability to solo any quest from 16 to 20 on heroic elite while also covering any missing skills/abilities that the person i am helping is missing PLUS letting them have all the glory assuming they are playing a future EE alt with the desire to be in the limelight.

In the past some of my “helper” alts were a little quest dominant making some of the people i was helping not feel needed and then it just takes longer for said person to level, which is not part of the plan.

In any case i have now “invested” too much to turn back now, aka tomes and btcoe gear.

Well wish me luck as i try and power this chick to level, do not die in every single level 16 on elite quest, unlike my time with her last night and the night before. 🙂

PowerWerds

Think everyone knows what one spell i would cast in “real live” if i could, Mordenkainen’s Magnificent Mansion. Winning! But what if i could cast a few other spells that more aligned with my real word needs? I don’t really need the power to kill with a word, but i can think of a few helpful PowerWerds i think we can all get behind.

PowerWerd: Flu, When you don’t want to kill someone but it would be great if they were just sick for a few days mostly to get them the hell out of your way.

PowerWerd: Diarrhea, see above but add in a little RIGHT THE FUCK NOW!

PowerWerd: Tantrum, have you ever just been with someone that is right on the edge and you just want them to lose their shit? This one is for you.

Another “Final” Build

First of all sorry for missing yesterday’s post, i do try and hit on Mondays but i was overly busy dealing with real life. Again sorry.

As for DDo land think i just about have Samius in place for an attempt at a “final” life for a while. I am on my last ranger life so i now have all of the extra damage with ranged past live free feats, unless you at talking sneak attack damage then 2 more rogue lives wouldn’t be out of the question. Anyway the plan at the moment is to go shurikens (or some other ranged) full time, aka PewPewPew!

And that is about all i got. 🙂

Well not all, i know i am looking at 12/6/2 monk/ranger/rog or arty. Samius is always a halflinglike race so i think i might be returning to the skinny version. Man i just would really like it if they had beards or any manly facial hair really. Oh well… Will have to deal with a massive dex instead.

Guess i need to pull up the planer and get to work i have like a level and some change until i have this last life wrapped unless i really want those last 2 damage from sneak attacks……

FABulous!

I just want to be FABulous!!!!111!1! Like all the time.

But sometimes i want to have visual clues as to what armor i am wearing. And while i am at it i know i was in the minority here but i also liked the old style of bound to armor,skins. Don’t get me wrong i also love the new style of skins but i spent money on those old skins as well and some times i want to see them again.

For example what i am wearing right now.

Base Skin

Bound to Armor

Bound to account super skin

What i want is to one bring back the bound to armor skins in addition to the new super skins. Maybe don’t make any new B2armor skins unless it is easy to do so and the sales are worth the hassle. (I would think it would be both fast and worth wild but i dont have access to the data to know.)

In addition to bringing things back i want a drop down not unlike how metamagic feats now interact with quick bar icons, but per armor.

First remove this skin on of toggle and replace it with the following functions at the top level with matching over rides on each piece of armor. Always use Base, Always use B2Armor, Always use Equipped Cosmetic Skin. Set Always use Base as the default. If you really like the main toggle being like what it is have it change color, Transparent for base, Silver for B2Armor and Gold for Cosmetic.

Okay so that might sound hard, but it is not really. I have two armors in my pack that i tend to swap between say Fire Rest 30 (more like an Icy Regiments) and Cold Rest 30(Dragon Touched set up for amp but you get the idea). I don’t know about you but i tend to forget what armor i am wearing if i say look like image 3 all the time. So i buy a B2Armor skin for one of the armors and set it to always on. Ergo when i swap between them i get the visual of the swap.

Another issue i have with how having a Cosmetic Skin equipped is currently working is say you are wearing something like the Garments of Equilibrium, Ie something that has 3 hitpoints and is always falling off. With an Cosmetic Skin you have to look and see. The other day after a rough couple of quests in a row in a chain (where i didn’t what to run back and sell/repair) I was naked for i am not sure how long. Then once i repaired i didn’t notice that i was naked and did another quest. Good thing i needed to swap armor for some reason and i noticed that i was in the buff.

Well what do you think? Base/B2Armor/Cosmetic toggle for armor skins?

Lets all go on an Adventure

So if you all remember one of my goals for the year is to write and if necessary e-publish my own pnp adventure. And i have been working on it on and off in the back of my head for a while now. I have a start (the hook/how to set it) and the overall scope but i am getting fuzzy on the details. So my brain has been tooling a round a few ideas and i want to run them by you.

I think i want to tie in to the DDo setting for this module, ie i want to set things in Stormreach and use some of the npcs and some of the locations. Ideally i wouldn’t use more back story then necessary so non-ddo people could pick up the module and with a few tweaks plop it into their campaign. But i really like the idea of using a back drop that anyone can see for the cost of downloading the game and playing for free for 5 mins.

The other there is always like a mouth watering description that gets the ball rolling on opening your wallet. Like this one from on of my personal favorite quests ever.

Things and Playsel and Streams

Last night and this morning as i was falling to sleep and waking up i had a lot of versions of this post rocking around in my head. Things i want to cover and things i want to talk about. But i don’t have the clearest idea of how i want this ideas to flow into one and other. So if things are a little muddled in the transitions bear (or bare you you also dislike pants) with me.

Right this moment i want to defend Turbine and its Player Counsel. People it is something NEW and SCARY and NEW. Did i say NEW? Ie, change. I thought we all wanted change?

I think most of us can agree that the Mornlands system was less then ideal. Closed/Hidden/Secret we had no idea what was coming until it was mostly too late to get our two cents in on. I remember the first time i saw the new AC changes. I don’t even remember how many blog posts i did on AC and getting one that mattered and how many i wrote on how the current system is a removing the incentive to work at an worth wild AC. And i was fairly active working with the tools i had at my disposal. But we got the system anyway, and with it we got a promise to do a revision pass soon. To my knowledge there has been no talk of a follow up AC pass.

Maybe this PC, that is a dumb name by the way…. Maybe this Player Counsel can get in while it is still possible to herd the cats around to a plausible idea. Maybe not. But it is new people, Lets get off everyone nuts for a minute and see how things shake out.

Okay that said 3 more things on the Player Counsel.

Anytime i am reading the forums and i see “Read by a member of the Player Counsel” i am likely to shoot my drink out of my nose. If you are a member of the Counsel, unless you and i have spoken and you have an opinion that i respect (not necessarily agree with but respect) then tagging a post with i read this and i am important might as well be pissing in the wind in my eyes. That said anyone can earn my respect with well thought out responses and replies on things that the Player Counsel will be working. Still however “Read by a member of the Player Counsel” is likely not to garner any good will on my part.
I have been asked if i am going to be on the Player Counsel or not. Short answer is No, i will not be. But as i understand it, the reason is due to one i am not willing to change, my friendships with those that work at Turbine. I could have or it could be perceived that i might have a stronger voice in the Player Counsel due to my friends at Turbine and to a lesser degree this blog and the different podcasts as the podcasts are how i got to meet and become friends with these people. And if i have to give up being on the Player Counsel to still be able to talk and hang out freely with these people well then i guess it is not for me. No matter how much my wife thinks i need to be part of the decision making process when it comes to DDo. Guess I will just have to get hired.
I am getting really tired of typing Player Counsel. And we know that PC is a dumb-ass name. Can we please find something else? Playsel? Or Pounsel? Or maybe we can just nickname members all Bob and call it the meeting of the bobs, Motbs for short?

The other thing i want to talk about is streaming. I think Turbine needs an official stream(s)/schedule/team. It doesn’t need to be running 24/7 but i bet we could fill 80 hours fairly easily among there different games. Start with one stream and rotate things on a schedule, Asheron’s Call Mondays, LoTRs Tuesdays, DDo Wednesdays, Dev Friday Public Play, etc…. Then as things pick up we can expand the coverage to include other members in the party. I really feel that using these streaming services can provide a real advantage to the companies that take the time to do so. I spent some time last week ice jumping on stream. I ended up doing a Q and A with people that just wondered into the channel looking for something else to play. WHILE ICE JUMPING PEOPLE!

I have watching the MtG online coverage of events for a long time now. But you know what i really love? Just watching some of the pros that i really love and respect just playing MtG live on stream with their thoughts on things as the play.

Mind blowing right?

Vajazzle?

Yesterday, I was catching up with Rach over on her blog everydaytangents when one of her posts spawned an idea. She was writing about her limited experience with vajazzling, something i had to Google a bit to get and idea of what the hell she was talking about and when i got it i was not surprised be say… Okay surprised will work… I was surprised that this was a thing. Guess it even has a fairly sweet spoke person, in Jennifer Love Hewitt. I mean if anyone’s vagina should sparkle, it has to be her’s right?

Anyway, Rach was going on about being ready to go for it and add a little shine to her treasure chest when she realized that a skin test might be in order and aborted. But what stuck me was the options she had in the kit her friend “gifted” to her. Hearts, Stars, Diamonds, Clovers and Balloons! Wait no that is Lucky Charms… Well I guess that is right.

But what is there for us nerdy people?

I mean maybe we need a Dragon or a Sword. Maybe a D20 or a mix of dice. Maybe the greatest wizards of all time. 10 different poses of

Dungeon Master!

Just saying if you want to go the extra mile to make your golden mound even more special what would be better then a natural 20?

one and one, two and one, one and two

Morn.

I epic TRed Java last night and feed him a normal heart so he is ready to start again, one what i would like to be his last life for a bit. So i am trying to form a plan.

Tobril wants me to look at a 2 monk splash, which is poopy mostly do to if you have an unarmed profile then your animal form uses that profile. Or it did and i don’t remember ever seeing that it was changed. It kinda makes since that it would work that way wouldn’t it? Not from a logical pov, but from a coding/lazy pov. Animal form + weapons act like unharmed and handwraps ergo it would use the one that came first…

The first thing i have done is plan out the necessary AP point expenditures to do the things i want to have. And see what important things i am missing. I would have 17-18 APs left over and would miss the last tear of the Instinctive Fighting (dg sneak attack and 10 positive spell power.) And the Form Mastery ie 10 PRR, 2 damage and 2d6 sneak attack dice and some other bonuses.

One level in fighter gives me the options for extra action boost for 6(7) points, haste boost for 2(9), and reed in the wind for 3(12) or 12 total points. If i do a second fighter level then i could take Imp Dodge in this tree (Tobril claims stacking) for 6(18) more points. So something might need to be cut.

Now if i did one wizard level with those 18 APs i could pick up 15 hps(4) which isn’t bad as that includes 1% double strike and another 1[w]+damage attack. But a second wizard level allows us to spend 6 more total points for a shield clickly that makes up for the missing PRR.

Lets do see what 2/1 fighter/wiz looks like:

4 points for the hps in from Eldritch Knight

6 points for Haste boost and Reed.

6 more for imp Dodge.

1 for invisibility clickly?

17 total points spent 3 total bonus feats and PROFICIENCY with most weapons opening up all the non-Nightmare weapons in my pack (which there are some).

2/1 wiz/fighter:

6 in kensei for Reed, and haste boost 2

10 for Hps and Imp Shield

1 for invisibility clickly?

17 total points spent 2 total bonus feats and PROFICIENCY like above.

Even talking it out with you all, I am not any closer to a decision. Grumble Grumble.
