My Undead Monster?

This is my current take on the Melee Wizard. Right now most of my gear is laughable, this is another guy that got to 20/22 and just stopped getting played much. I knocked out his third life as a rogue/figher to make soloing to cap fast and easy and for the most part it was.

How much of this do i really need to explain? 17 wiz is for Power Werd Killz, if you can live with out it then you might only need between 12 and 15 wizard levels. For me i want Otto’s and Power Werd Stun so 15 is my personal minimum for a melee caster.

Main defenses are miss chances, Wrath form, Blur/Displacement and Hps. I think i can work in a 30 -40 PRR with the right items and what not and i want to max out my dodge. Think right now it is like 8% with only feats to add to dodge.  It is also worth saying i took all the ways to get Radiant Forcefield effect. I didn’t love the idea of a triggered cast based on my live total but then i tried it and i dig it. Sure it cuts down on incoming damage so you can heal up but it is also a HUGE VISUAL CLUE! And that is huge when you are playing a super busy character, it is easy to lose track of your HPs in the thick of things.

Things that might be confusing. That one point in Int on the EKnight tree, that was an messup. I was trying to spend the 30 points for the top tear when i realized that i just didn’t have the points for it and the dwarf/Pm lines i wanted, went to hit cancel and hit Cool Cool instead…. I was too cheep at that moment to bother fixing it. I will clean it up later.  Why didn’t i nab that last level in the dragon mark? Think i will when i fix that Int point, but really the thing i thought was most important in the dwarf tree was Con to damage then the forcefield after that i wanted to get into the Class PREs and i just didn’t have extra points to take the ranged grapnel.  Lastly i really like how just those few points really sang in the Assassin tree. That is a lot of dps for not a lot of points, a really great return.

Well i hope to get some time on this character soon. But i feel that he will always feel behind until i gear him out really well and i am not sure how motivated  i am to do that right now.

Merry Thanksgiving

This post has nothing to do with Thanksgiving, but i wanted to put it out on front street.

Yesterday for lunch the wife and i headed to Sonic, she wanted corndogs and i have been craving chili dogs for months. Get there before the lunch rush. We are trained to eat at 11:30 or so. Anyway place our order, the girl reads it back to us and everything sounds right to the TWO of us. That bit is important because when we get our food we notice a missing drink right away. After a moment talking to the bellhop our 3rd drink arrives and we head home to eat.

Getting home we divide to order and realize the entire issues has to due with the fact that she didn’t ENTER my chili dog combo. Aka my food is missing. Grumble. Double check the ticket and yep it is just missing. Funny how she read the order back to me at the car right also…. No big i can just make something real fast.

Jump to about 4 am this morning.

By the way i explained the above so i could tell this.

I have a dream where i design a way for tablets and smart phones can be used for drive ins and drive throughs. Basically using your smart device you visit the restaurant’s web page and start an order either as a guest or better yet set up an account. At each menu thingy (where people enter the orders) you have an number generator. You need a number generator to help prevent order spoofing, in addition to that you also need to set the generator up with a motion detector to “activate” the number you also need that number to identify your location. At the drive through menu you just tell the order taker that you are blasting (or what ever marketing buzz word is hot right then) enter your number the cashier reads back your order prompts you for the up sale and finalizes the order. At a place like Sonic, you wouldn’t even need to talk to anyone until they delivered the food.

I know right now some places are adding touch screens at drive throughs but that seems like pushing the problems not fixing them. Also the nice thing about this idea could be special “apps” for each restaurant chain. I know that is not a good thing on the end user side but from a marketing side that is sweet. Free ad on everyone’s phone/tablet that orders via blast…

Day 10, Entrepreneur?

If any of you were waiting I am sorry for the late update, i had to drive out of town to take the assessment test for the post office and i think it went fairly well. Most of it was fairly easy but i think i might have been a little slow in places. Any way that is not important right at the moment.

Today’s reading was all about getting your mind looking at other job models like starting your own business. I have lots of ideas and but i am lacking some skills to get some things rolling. Others i do have the skills for but i wonder if i can make them happen and still support my family?

Okay lets jump to homework then maybe look at some of the options i have been mulling over.

10.1, What do i think of the word Entrepreneur?

It is a good fine word. I have always wanted to have my own business. But i often feel i am great with ideas but often feel that i am missing on some skills. But while i am thinking on it why do i spend time on learning/working on other skills vs the ones i need to make some of these ideas real…?

10.2, Do i have what it takes to be on my own?

This question might be a big part of the answer to how i left of the last question. I just don’t know. I have a family to help support and what if i fail more then a few times. I can’t let Torrance carry the bag because I am riding on the fail train…

10.3, Are you an “accidental” entrepreneur?

Maybe, think i am more motivated to work on some of my ideas more now then ever before. But i still want that traditional X$ a year JOB.

10.4, What service or product could i promote?

Like i said before i have a few book ideas and have had a ton of shirt ideas as well as a few “modules/Dnd quests” in mind.

10.5,What invention could i develop?

As a “thing” I have had this idea for an “aquaponic tree” that would allow any one to grow some simple produce.

10.6, What are 3-4 ideas that i have had on the back burner or have seen others develop?

see above think i talked about 3 or 4 already.

10.7, Describe 3-4 times in my own experience when i was paid on results vs “putting in time”.

I want to go back to that time when i cleaned out the goat barn. Other then that i don’t really remember a time where i got paid via results. Maybe if you look at it from the right angle my live in nanny days could be thought of like that.

10.8,What would prevent you from doing something on my own?

Again i want to say it comes back down to profit and support of the family. Am i going to try this writer thing but that is low cost just time and doing but that doesn’t really count as on my own…

10.9, Is it exciting or frighting to think about being my own boss?

I would love it, assuming i knew i had X+ income each year. Are you kidding? Writing, poding thinking up apps and tee shirt ideas all day would be amazing. Hell i even thought about doing some standup. But at some point you have to turn ideas into realty and i have never done that with out someone paying for my time but then they get the big bucks each year, right?

Short and Hairy

I have been dancing around this idea for a while now but after reading Geoff’s article this morning i think now is the time to stand and stay this out loud. Dwarf’s are currently the master race. And if you want to have the idea low gear leveler i think you want a dwarf rouge/X build.

That feels good to say… Hope it was super controversial. It was in my mind…

I feel like i lead the curve on things like this and then jump ship right as it becomes main stream. So i half feel like there will be a huge up swing in the fat halfling characters. I remember reading a tag some were that said something like: Will play any class or race except dwarf and rangers, they are the easy buttons of DDo.

Now i dont know about the ranger thing, but i will say 6 or so ranger levels are fairly sweet. But i totally agree that the dwarf is the master race right now knocking the plastic helfs off their throne for the foreseeable future.

I currently have 4 actively being played dwarfs or fat halflings, Samius, Butterzotch, As400 and SamiusJr. And i have to say the racial line is amazing.

  • Massive amounts of Con and HP equals staying alive power, no brainer.
  • Iron Stomach is great, drink any pot and get lots of perks.
  • MORE SWEET AXE ACTION!!!!!!
  • Bonuses to Tactics, if you are a tactics person you know how important these bonuses are.
  • The dragonmark gives SR, a forcefield and an earth grab attack… Okay so SR and forcefeild bitches!
  •  And Throw your weight around, WTF? Con give HP, Con is damage, Con is HPDPS? Yes please!

And you know that mountain line is not bad either, if you have the HP do you really need reflex saves? Just twist them in.

Also my quick 2 cents on what is the best single class to level up. Is the one that had the lowest score, yep for me it was the fighter. Namely when i was doing the tank on the cheep thing he mostly leveled to cap solo at the time. All he needed was the best AC i could muster for the least amount of work all the amp i could fit in after that and a Vamp Morningstar of PG (i think) with a guild slot… I felt unkillable most of the time on Samyus back then. His Ac was always solid so i didn’t take a lot of damage what i did take i was able to heal back with a cleave/great cleave and when it was time to fight the boss i would haste up and go as big dps as i could. 9/10 times i could get them before they got me. If i were to do it again yep he would be a dwarf… They are just too good not to play right now.

Is Eldritch Knight going to be any good?

So for a while now i have been leveling as400 with no real plan other then to xp with Tobril while he is rocking on his completionest run. What has happened is we TR xp until level 3-4 real live happens i get back on and he is level 18… Tobril has a few stones of xp to help with his quest, btw.. So i slowly grind the rest of the way up catching Tobril from time to time but more or less i got nothing.

A plan would help a lot if i had one. To that end i have been looking at the Eldritch Knight and hoping for a plan.

Now i love me some melee wizards. Think i might have made my name on the them in fact and i am hoping that they will be returning to a place of play ability. That said i don’t think you can do eE content as a melee Wiz and i am not sure that this PRE will help but eH? Maybe.

Stay with me but i have a hard time reading the PRE break down out of game but i am going to try…

Looks like the core enchantments are fine, not amazing and not so good that i have to take 20 levels in wizard so that is good. A small amount of double strike and 3d4 to 4d4 of an element based on a toggle? One more d4 is not so important that i have to take 18 levels even so that is good. 17/2/1 or 16/2/2..  The main question for my EK build is do i want PwK or can i live with out?

So what do i see a melee wiz looking like now? How about a dwarf 17wiz/2rog/1fighter or a 16/wiz/2rog/2pally going dual Daxes and heavy armor? Stacking up as many layers of defenses as possible while maxing out the melee potential and later in those eE quests shifting into more of the MM caster with the option to melee once a real melee has the agro.

So as i level 400 up i will be waiting and gathering gear to go this way using the +20 heart turbine gave us to “fix” our builds due to the enchantment revamp.

 

Okay think i might need to xp while i am simi-motivated only 12 levels to go to catch up with Tobril…

So last night I was watching some Theros drafts on Channel Fireball while I mindlessly rocked a few hard vale quests when the brew bug bit me and a deck idea entered my brain. Using things I new I had only. I didn’t want to buy anything for a “fun” deck.

First draft:

20 land Mountains and Forests.

I didn’t win a game in the test match vs Remmie right after I scrambled to pull the list together. But I feel some of that was hitting a big land pocket in both matches. That could been me only shuffling maybe 6-10 times total, the lands just didn’t have enough time to really get dispersed through the deck. In both games I had the game in my grasp early but then Remmie would get something down with a fat ass and was able to use it to stall things out and recover. Where had I gotten some gas it would have been a different story maybe… Maybe not…

I think we could cut to 18 lands and add two more dude, but Young Pyo and Akroan Crusader were huge workhorses. I really wish I could run more of them… But like all wennie decks it wants more draw or card selection. The boy and I started to talk about a white version but it doesn’t help in draw or card selection departments. But I can see going blue if I was willing to lose Giant Growth/Sedge Scorp and was willing to raise the curve some… But then the next thing you know your playing the blue devotion deck or the normal red burn deck…

Oh well not every fun deck works.

White/Blue Weenie

Last night I got a txt message from a friend asking me for help on building a cheep yet competitive MtG deck. Right now cheep and competitive are kinda at opposing scales as I understand the metagame.

Metagame- The highest level of strategy in many complex games, metagame refers to any aspect of strategy that involves thinking about what your opponent is thinking you are thinking.

And in MtG terms how to build a deck to attack the other decks you think might be floating around. So this is a real challenge, tasty.

So around 9 or so I went to get started putting money cards into a trade binder thinking I might go hang on Thrusday night go get some fun games in and maybe make some trades…

As I was sorting cards I started to hit on a fairly straight forward build that I am going to share.

This is just what I had handy while I was sorting so final numbers are off but it is a fine starting point. You may or may not want more Daxos. I think you do. The life gain is huge. And over at Channelfireball.com he is less then a dollar. I know going to four Ethereal Armor is the right call, but I only have the one but as they are a common they should be cheep. Fabled hero is an all star, going to 3 or 4 is a no brainer and could be worth cutting the Battlewises to make room for them.

There are some sweet interactions with this deck.

Cavalry Pegasus makes humans fly when it attacks, and other then the Triton Fortune Hunter and the Hopeful Eidolon all our dudes are humans.

Ethereal Armor, gives +1/+1 for each enchantment and Hopeful Eidolon is an enchantment dude, that is an interesting interaction. Caught Remmie in play testing more then once thinking I was attacking with a 2/2 first striker and I was really attacking with a 3/3 first striker because of the enchantment dude.

Speaking of enchantments Aqueous Form is exactly what this deck is looking for, it is both a heroic trigger but it is also allows you to attack with out worry about blocks and fixes your draws.

I think the number of Triton Tactics, Dauntless Onslaught and Gods Willing are questionable. They all trigger heroic, Tactics and Onslaught trigger 2 dudes and they still wins. Gods Willing is also a nice trick save a dude or make attack easy or hard. I think 3 of each might be a good place to start.

Speaking of places to start I added 5 dudes that draw cards. In a weenie deck card draw is key because your guys normally get out classed real quickly. Maybe less so with all this heroic giving +1/+1 counters…. But I can see sideboarding or even main deck switching to some number of Wavecrash Tritons to go more controly vs BIG guys.deck depending on your meta.

I know for those of you that are not Magic players this was not the most compelling read but if you think you might want a low cost deck for the current standard that can totally grow as you can add money this is a fair start.

Radio Silence

Sorry for the lack of posts last week, it was a fairly busy week plus I was ill one day so that just meant that I had one less day at work to get things done. But in addition to that I am just not having super amounts of fun right now.

My higher-level guys are not xping fast enough for me to want to be working on them all the time. My low level guys are grinding away mostly solo as Tobril leap frogs past me over and over again as people motivated to the TR grind are wanted to do. The wife is only interested in playing on the weekend when there is more then just Tobril and I playing (maybe not even together). Although last night she and I where talking and she sounded like she was for trying to play her namesake char again who is currently a pure 20ish druid. So maybe she and I will rock some easy epics again and maybe that will light a fire under my ass.

I think the real killer is I am just unhappy with how my mains, Samius and Javabot are playing. Like most wizards Samius audibled into a force arch mage to rock the double rainbow. And that was fun for a while but between the changes to the procs and just spamming different magic/chain missile spells depending on cooldown over and over again I am just tired.

Java’s dps is way lower then I remembered from the life before and I am not sure what to do about it, although I just got him back to 25 so maybe switching weapons will do the trick. If not…. I might need to find another build.

And I guess that takes me to the last thing, my spare brainpower is now thinking about magic decks and not ddo builds.

How can I shake myself out of this grand tilt? I want to look at the Eldritch Knight, it could be just the thing. If I can find away back to the melee/caster hybrid that Samius was originally it could be just the shot in the arm I need.

All that said I still enjoy playing, I just seem to find myself watching more MtG videos or playing more MtG then going and logging on to ddo…

Hell maybe I need to pug some more, that will get the blood flowing.

DDo Store Saves the Day?

So last night Tobril was playing hooky from work and happened to be hanging out on DDo, getting ready for a TR. We talked while I rocked a WizKing and he made his “go” decision. Meaning if I was coming along for the first 8 levels and maybe then some, I needed to shit or get off the pot.

So mainly do to the fact that I had 0 plans but I have already ate a heart on my pure monk Samiusjr I decided to give him a go. He has been sitting around for a while now getting less then 0 play, so why not?

With no real plan I went dwarf monk. Mostly wis/con based but with enough str to get the job done most of the time.

Then the strangest thing happened, I hit the ddo store to buy some grog for the 5 tp cake quest and I saw a cosmetic helm, it was like a sign from Sparta. I only saw it for a sec, but it was long enough for my brain to scream monk fighter in platemail, yo!

At this point I have hand wraps and whatever junk you get in the end rewards for the quests, I am not even wearing the starting outfit you get as a monk.

A grand tp later I have my hat and a cosmetic suit of plate and I am kung foo dwarf knight! Have to say something as simple as looking badass really brought me back into the fun. Now I want to “find” a build for this guy other then 12/5/x so I can be all dwarf axe/2wf/throwing my weight around monk guy. Have to say that sounds amazing!

All I need to do is get McGoggles to 17-18 so to play with Tobril post his stoning so I can working on SamJr in the off time the build should be fairly easy if I just work for centered axes for now and then rock the rest of the monk levels post lvl 7. Now just need to find feats and a simple gear list…

Mystical Magical Cosmic Thingy

Today I want to invent a new item and maybe make a few new powers for DDo items. First of all, I want my item to have that super chaotic feeling but still be useful.

So the first useful power/random power I want to add is a guard style effect that moves your attacker to a random “empty” spot when it procs. But something I really want to add is when you equip this item you get an iu box with a few options like this”

1% Very far away
3% fairly far away
5% simi far away
10% not all that far away…

This will allow you to scale the proc% but moving the distance where the monster is moved away to further or closer to you. So say if you select the 1% rate the mob could be moved any place in the dungeon zone. Where the 10% moves the mob to an empty area with in 30’ of you. The 5% would be between 30 and 60 feet where the 3% would be 60 to 90 feet. The proc might also have some kind of Dot given incase you some how moved a mob to a place where you couldn’t reach it/it can’t reach you (say behind a door) but you need to kill said mob to open the door.

In my mind this power would be desired by either a caster or a ranged build. Any one that wants to have mobs away from them could make fair use of this item. At first I was thinking an orb. But maybe this would make more since as an item. Maybe if we can make this something really good we can create a torc replacement. So lets look a making it amazing for a necklace.

Okay so lets give it another guard effect that has a list of buffs effects.

Rejuvenation Cocoon is the nuts, I can see this one of many on proc effects.
The Sp regen song as if it was from a Spell Singer would also be very impressive proc.
Other buff (think tea with the queen) effects that are stupid powerful but having a small percent proc rate and then a simi long list of random or simi random effects.

I don’t know about you, but I might move my torc out of my neck slot for this super mystical magical cosmic thingy necklace….
